United Buddy Bears in Malaysia

United Buddy Bears is finally here in Malaysia. Do you know what is United Buddy Bears?

United Buddy Bears is an idea to promote living together in peace and harmony whereby currently having around 143 Buddy Bears (each 2 meter tall) which represent as many countries recognised by the United Nations. Their first exhibition was in Berlin in 2002 and currently at their 24th pit-stop, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia with more than 25 million visitors world-wide and enable them to admire the United Buddy Bears.

Each Buddy Bears shows the individual design created  by different artists on behalf of their native countries. Interestingly, its another medium for every international artists that carries different styles of art are joined together in the name of work of art, spreading zest of life. The diverse design of the Buddy Bears always typical for the respective countries and enable every visitors to experience a journey around the globe.



The Buddy Bears stand together “hand in hand”, symbolising the future vision of a peaceful world. Each bear stands for the people of the different countries and their culture, yet not for political systems. Buddy Bear activities and aid for children in need have formed an inseparable unit. To date, around €1,800,000 (November 2011) have been raised through donations and auctions in aid of UNICEF and local children’s relief organisations. 

Currently, United Buddy Bears is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 8th December 2011 until the 15th February 2012 under the patronage of the Sultan of Selangor. 143 bears are presented downtown on Jalan Bukit Bintang, Pavilion.

Me & Malaysia Bear
The Malaysia Bear specially designed and painted by renowned Malaysian artist Imuda was unveiled at the launch by Dato’ Haji Zafer Hashim, President & Group Managing Director, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad, the patron of the Malaysian Buddy Bear and the artist himself. Imuda’s design featured elements of the main races, culture, flora and fauna as well as famous landmarks of Malaysia.  The Malaysian Buddy Bear will join the other bears on their globe-trotting mission.


The United Buddy Bears exhibition is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Tourism Malaysia, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Berhad, Kontena Nasional Berhad, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur and Tesco Stores (M) Sdn Bhd. Jointly organised by Jojo Events Sdn Bhd and E-Plus Entertainment Productions (M) Sdn Bhd.
